The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) designed a new storm sewer as part of the reconstruction of Broadway Rd. (Rt. 130). The new sewer is located along the edge of pavement and is about 20 feet deep. Shoring of the excavation was necessary to maintain traffic on Broadway Rd. throughout construction.
McMahon & Mann Consulting Engineers, P.C. (MMCE) designed shoring consisting of sheet piles and internal bracing. The bracing scheme accommodated the pressure from a high ground water elevation and a shallow depth to top of rock while providing sufficient access to the excavation bottom to allow the contractor to complete construction of the sewer.
