NYS Thruway Fourth Lane Shoring

Project Gallery
The New York State Thruway Authority widened its highway between Exits 53 and 54 from three to four lanes. The general contractor hired Ferraro Pile & Shoring, Inc. (FPS) to install shoring for sewers crossing beneath the highway and for the construction of wider bridge abutments. FPS engaged McMahon & Mann Consulting Engineers, P.C. (MMCE) to design the excavation support systems at three sewer locations and six bridge locations.
MMCE prepared drawings and supporting calculations for anchored sheet pile walls, cantilever sheet pile walls and cantilever soldier pile walls with wood lagging. FPS installed the walls along the highway to allow boring of sewers beneath the pavement. Walls were also constructed along the highway to allow construction of extensions to bridge abutments, which were required for the wider highway.
