SAND AND GRAVEL MINING

Sand and gravel mining is a thriving business in New York State due to the extensive glacially derived soil deposits that cover the area. McMahon & Mann is well suited to address the many issues faced by mine owners and operators. Groundwater studies are often necessary to evaluate the potential for mines to affect local groundwater conditions. Ecological, wetland, archaeological and traffic studies are necessary to allow an assessment of other potential environmental impacts. Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) are often required at mines as well as general or individual permits under the State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES). McMahon & Mann is well versed in the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) and the SPDES permit program. We have completed numerous environmental impact statements and hydrogeologic studies and developed many SWPPPs to assist mine owners in obtaining a permit to operate or expand a mining operation.
