SLOPE STABILIZATION ENGINEERING

Unstable soil and rock slopes cause significant public safety concerns. Rock falls and mass soil slumping can wipe out an entire roadway in minutes and create life threatening conditions for an unsuspecting public. These conditions are caused by large earth and water forces, which can wreak havoc on our aging infrastructure. McMahon & Mann has been successful at instituting measures to stabilize soil and rock slopes. The first step in the process is to monitor the slope behavior using inclinometers and piezometers to gain an understanding of the size of the potential failure and the forces involved. As described in the following project examples, McMahon & Mann has employed a wide range of engineering controls to create safe conditions for public use, including soil and rock anchors, dry and wet soil mixing, reaction block walls, retaining walls earth and rock berms, and groundwater drainage and control.
