Mike Mann’s presentation, “Remediation of Soft Sensitive Clay using the Dry Mix Method,” described the testing and engineering analyses that led to the selection of the “dry mix” process and the use of this approach to remediate slope failures along Tonawanda Creek, in Northern Erie and Southern Niagara Counties. The geologic conditions along Tonawanda Creek and its tributaries, contribute to a number of bank failures that have damaged roads and homes. The dry mix method, which mixes cement into the soils, was used to remediate the soft soils allowing the roadway embankments to be reconstructed.

Andrew Nichols’ presentation, “A Unique Foundation Wall, Where Temporary Becomes Permanent” described MMCE’s involvement in a project for a planned medical office building located on the Buffalo Medical Campus. The presentation focused on the utilization of a steel sheet pile wall, originally required to shore the excavation, as the final perimeter wall for an underground parking garage.
