Hakes C&D Landfill Facility

McMahon & Mann has been providing ongoing hydrogeologic and geotechnical consultation at the Hakes Facility since it was acquired by Casella Waste Management in 1998. We have been involved in the construction of each landfill cell and cap closures at the Hakes Facility. This involves analysis of static and seismic stability of the landfill slopes throughout the construction of the cells using soil strength and soil/geosynthetic interface data.

Casella Waste Management of New York, Inc. operates Hakes Construction & Demolition Debris Landfill Facility in the Town of Campbell, New York. McMahon & Mann has been providing ongoing hydrogeologic and geotechnical consultation at the Hakes Facility since it was acquired by Casella Waste Management in 1998. We have been involved in the construction of each landfill cell and cap closures at the Hakes Facility. This involves analysis of static and seismic stability of the landfill slopes throughout the construction of the cells using soil strength and soil/geosynthetic interface data. Total expected landfill settlement, subgrade drainage system and surface water flows were also evaluated. McMahon & Mann provides construction monitoring services including:

  • Preparation of design plans, specifications and quality assurance plan,
  • Soils borrow lab testing,
  • In-place moisture density testing,
  • Shelby tube sample permeability,
  • Geosynthetic liner field and laboratory testing, and
  • Construction monitoring report preparation.

 

Environmental services include:

  • Development and updating of the hydrogeologic report,
  • Analysis and implementation of a surface water sediment control plan,
  • Preparation of a landfill reclamation plan describing excavation of waste from an unlined area, and environmental sampling of subgrade soils,
  • Installation of monitoring wells, and
  • Preparation of quarterly environmental monitoring reports, including results of groundwater and surface monitoring programs.
