McMahon & Mann helped develop design plans for a new drydock for the Maid of the Mist boats in the lower Niagara River downstream of Niagara Falls. The site of the new drydock was the location of the former Schoellkopf Power Station in the Niagara River Gorge.

The facility includes a 20-foot-high reinforced concrete retaining wall at the water’s edge, a 90-foot-high permanent crane to lift the boats out of the water, and new elevator access to the Niagara Gorge.

McMahon & Mann’s work included evaluation of the historic Schoellkopf Power Station remains, geological reconnaissance of the adjacent rock slopes, foundation recommendations for the crane at the top of the gorge, foundation recommendations and testing for the permanent dry dock crane at the bottom of the gorge, and design of a soldier pile and lagging retaining wall next to the elevator tower.
