McMahon & Mann completed subsurface explorations and field and laboratory testing to supplement an environmental feasibility study for athletic facility upgrades at Buffalo State College. To accomplish this, we engaged Aztech Technologies, Inc. (Aztech), a certified women-owned business, to complete ten borings using a truck-mounted “direct-push” cylinder. This procedure involves collecting a continuous soil sample from the ground surface to the bottom of the boring. Aztech also installed two monitoring wells at the site.

During sampling, we screened the soil samples with a photoionization detector for the presence volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Based on the screening results, odor, and the groundwater conditions, we sent one soil sample from each boring to Con-Test Analytical Laboratory (Con-Test), also a certified women-owned business, for testing. Con-Test tested the samples for RCRA 8 metals (Arsenic, Barium, Cadmium, Chromium, Lead, Mercury, Selenium, and Silver).

We also sampled each monitoring well and sent the groundwater samples to Con-Test for VOCs, semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), and RCRA 8 metals.
