McMahon & Mann evaluated subsurface conditions at this site in downtown Buffalo and developed foundation recommendations for the new Erie County Courthouse Building. The subsurface investigation began by reviewing old maps and files in the archives at City Hall and mapping the locations of the numerous buildings that have occupied this site. A subsurface exploration program that included borings and test pits to verify the extent of buried foundations that occupied this urban site followed the mapping.

The subsurface exploration program also included measuring the properties of the native sand and Onondaga Limestone bedrock that underlie this site. Based on this information McMahon & Mann prepared foundation design recommendations for drilled piers bearing on bedrock for this 10-story courthouse.

We consulted on the preparation of foundation specifications and monitored the construction of the drilled piers.
