Client: Watts Engineers
Client Contact: Mr. Phillip Galbo, P.E. 716-836-1540

The Genesee Valley Greenway at the site extends generally in a north-south direction and the Thruway extends generally in an east-west orientation. The Pennsylvania Railroad previously operated a railroad track along the Greenway alignment. Prior to the development of the railroad, the Genesee Valley Canal was operated along the alignment. The railroad reportedly was constructed on the towpath of the canal. This canal was a branch to the Erie Canal located north of the site.

McMahon & Mann worked with the project designer, Watts Engineers, and prepared plans and specifications for this New York State Thruway Bridge Replacement. We implemented a subsurface exploration program and recommended a pile foundation driven into dense glacial till due to the presence of organic peat and marl in the subgrade. We recommended fill material and placement specifications for the integral abutments. We used the Wave Equation Analysis of Piles program to estimate the drivability of the piles into the soil types observed in the borings.

The bridge replacement was completed over a two-year construction schedule.
