McMahon & Mann was retained by OGS to develop geotechnical design recommendations for the new Engineering and Science Building on the SUNY Binghamton campus. We retained Earth Dimensions, Inc. to drill borings and install groundwater monitoring wells. The subsurface conditions consist of fill over a silty sand deposit over dense glacial till. We provided recommendations for spread footings to support the new structure, for design of the reinforced concrete floor slab and for basement drainage. McMahon & Mann also evaluated the seismic site class for design of the new building.

McMahon & Mann prepared design plans for the basement drainage system. This included temporary drainage controls during construction and a permanent groundwater collection system that was installed beneath the basement floor. The permanent system included  a gravity drainage system with backup alarms and pumps.
