Zoar Valley Road - Site 1

Project Gallery
The site is located along Zoar Valley Road in the Town of Concord, New York. A slope failure encroached on the road causing the Erie County Department of Public Works to close it at this location. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) prepared a project worksheet outlining a proposed scope of work for remediation and mitigation of the site. According to the FEMA project worksheet, during the storms of August 2009, runoff overtopped the road, causing erosion and slope failure.
McMahon & Mann and Greenman-Pederson prepared a remedial design for the road and slope. The design included a series of drainage trenches and a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall with a vegetated face. The MSE wall allowed for a steep upper slope, allowing the lower slope down to the creek to be flattened and protected.
